[comp.sys.mac.hardware] How to get color on an SE/30

kevin@crash.cts.com (Kevin Hill) (06/04/91)

How can I get color on an se/30? the main reason that I am posting this
is that I am trying to find a cheap way to do so..
Also, when I opened up my mac the other day, there was a connector that
had nothing attached to it on the side of the board.. About 50 to 70 holes?
I don't know exactly because I didn't get curious about it until I closed the
mac back up..
  Thanks.

You will need to add a color card and monitor to your system. Check out
the Micro XCEED cards, which can work either with a 13" 640x480x8bit
monitor, or with a 1024x768x8bit setup (19"?). If you want to go for
the gusto, get a RasterOps 264/30 24-bit card and a 13" Trinitron
monitor of some make. My Seiko makes a great partner for the RasterOps.

The Micron card is roughly $325 via mail-order; the RasterOps is closer
to $600+. You can get a Seiko CM1445 for ~$600, an Apple for closer to
$700, and a Sony for about the same. The cheaper units (NEC MacSync,
Magnavox) cost less ($400-$500), but I don't think they measure up in
daily use.

That is the PDS (Processor Direct Slot) that a monitor or other
expansion card will plug into. I don't recall how many holes it has in
it :-)
