Ok, there has been a lot of discussion about the relative merits of the new Apple StyleWriter vs the HP DeskWriter. I would like to extend the discussion to comparisons with the Apple ImageWriter. As I see it: Price: StyleWriter < ImageWriter < DeskWriter Speed: StyleWriter > DeskWriter (where does the ImageWriter fit in? both with and without ATM) Quality: StyleWriter = DeskWriter (I believe that the ImageWriter produces documents with lower quality, due to its lower DPI, but is it unacceptable? I am interested in the home environment as we have a LaserWriter II NTX at the office.) Host Dependence: All are dependent on the Host CPU to produce the pixels required for a page, so given the same CPU, all speeds should be relative. i.e. - with a faster CPU all three printers will get faster. Features: StyleWriter Small, Quiet, TrueType, ATM? DeskWriter Big, Moderate Noise, ATM? ImageWriter Medium, Noisy, ATM, Tractor Feed for cards and labels, Color Ribbon (of minor interest), Availability of ThunderScan Please feel free to add your comments or change any innacuracies that I have introduced. ------------------------------------------------------------- William B. Two features that keeps the imagewriter viable are cost per page and impact printing (required for carbon copies). -- Bill (johnston@minnie.me.udel.edu)
