[net.followup] AT&T's new Personal Computer

rcc@imsvax.UUCP (06/18/84)

We just got a call from the AT&T rep. The new AT&T Personal Computer is
going to be -- you guessed it -- an IBM PC-clonealike !! It's an 8086-
based machine manufactured by Olivetti, no less. Price to be set below
that of an IBM-PC/XT (wheee...).

Sigh. So much for the dream of a single-user 3B machine. In it's place
we get a 3 year old piece of junk that was obsolete 3 years ago. Another
winning market-place move brought to you by the MBA's at AT&T.

Just thought I'd let you in on the good news. Excuse me, please. I think
I'm going to go find a nice quiet corner and wretch for a while... Ugh.

See the July issue of _Personal Computing_ for a set of articles on the
AT&T 6300 PC (and an interview with Jack Scanlon "man behind AT&T`s
UNIX operating system"!).
