Hello, I have a question for everyone out there in net land. How can I view encapsulated post script files on a Mac? At this point the files are being used on a VAX running DecWindows, PathWorks for the Mac and a bunch of other stuff. If this helps: I have already tried putting them in a VAXshare volume and editing the MSAF$FILE_TYPES.DAT file to say that all *.eps files are GIF, MACPAINT, or PICT type files. This would change the file's icon and "kind" on the Mac, but none of the Mac applactions (Superpaint,MacDrawII,MacPaint,AppleScan...) I have could open them. Any input would be most helpful, thanks in advance Edmund.

Page Layout programs like PageMaker, Quark Express, DesignStudio, etc. typically display a PICT included in the resource fork of the EPS file on creation. These programs do not interpret the postscript in the EPS. All they do with that is send it out when you print. You need a postscript interpreter for the Mac. Freedom of the Press Light is the cheapest way to go (I think), though I've heard complaints about its accuracy. (And you can't zoom in to examine registration of objects.) What other postscript interpreters are available (other than the ones in the printers)? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |John Gibson Princeton Univ. If all you want to do is PRINT them, then use the "LW Font Utility" application (supplied with all Apple printers) to Download them to an Apple Postscript Printer, such as a LWII or Personal NT. But, if you want to EDIT them then something like PageMaker or ANY of the Page Layout applications won't help. Even Illustrator 3.0 won't help you. What you have is straight VANILLA postscript. Illustrator will only give the Bounding RECT of the Postscript file, and Pagemaker will only show you any PICT resources contained in the file. You WILL NOT be able to perform any editing, at most you will be able to resize. I would recommend a product such as CANVAS 3.0. Canvas will allow you to both edit and print vanilla postscript files. It might be worth checking out Freehand, I don't know if it does what you won't, it might. Hope this helps, Anthony. PS: Please don't flame my opinions, 'cause that's all they are.(BTW: I recommend Canvas from the simple position of observer...ie I have no affiliations with Deneba). ---------------------------------------------- Anthony Dunstan Just Another MacCyberMan, The University of Adelaide Apple Consortium.
