I am having a very odd problem with a Mac Plus. When booting from and using a hard drive, everything works fine. However, when using the floppy drive to boot, read, write, mount, or anything, the floppy drive runs extremely slowly. For example, to copy a 100K file from floppy to hard disk takes about 3 minutes! There are never any read or write errors, just extremely slow operation. Has anyone experienced this? I recently removed 4 1-Mb SIMMs from the machine and replaced the original 256K SIMMs. This of course required soldering the resistor back together. But RAM checks are successful, and operations are completely normal when using a hard disk. Could I have disconnected something somehow that would cause slow but reliable floppy operation? Thanks in advance for any information... Steve Strange UC Berkeley
