[comp.sys.mac.hardware] How I fixed a jittery SE/30 display

I recently put in a 105 Rodime drive in my SE/30. Shortly
thereafter the video began to get funky. Horizontal waviness
about 1" from the top and from the bottom of the screen.
Occasional extreme jitteriness. Not really correlated to
disk activity.

Well I fixed it. I wasn't patient enough to vary only one
variable at a time, but here's how I did it:

Took apart the mac. The drive bay itself had grown a little
loose. Removed the motherboard so I could get to the screws.
Tightened them down. Loosened the retaining screw that holds
the HD piggback to the FD. Slid the HD toward the back of the
computer. Tightened the retaining screw. The cable was all
over the place. Bunched it up real well, sort of scrunched
it toward the back of the computer.

Voila. Rock solid video. Well almost. Still have to keep the
cookie sheet between the Mac and my VGA monitor when both are on.

Good luck.
