I'm finally in the market for a reasonably priced printer for my mac. My
requirements are simple: reasonably good compatibility w/postscript,fairly low
cost and envelope feedability (NOT automatic). I would look at the DeskWriter,
but my attempts to feed envelopes failed misrably. From what I have gathered,
the above listed combination would be fairly priced (under $1000?) and satisfy
my other requirements.
Now I don't require 8 ppm, but on the other hand anything slower than 1 ppm
would probably drive me insane (although it obviously depends on what you're
trying to print). Does anyone have experience with this combination, or with
other basic low-cost laser printer systems, whether specifically for the mac
or using an IBM compatible printer with a driver like FOP?
If I get enough response, I will post a summary for other people trying
to wade through the forest of "low-cost" laser printing.
(The idea of owning a laser printer is bizarre to me. It doesn't seem
too long ago that I was in 6th grade, messing around with the school's
brand-new (and only) Apple ][. The school couldn't afford a dot-matrix
printer for it.)
