OAKLAND, Calif. (UPI) -- The Oakland Athletics signed outfielder Stan Javier to a one-year contract Thursday, leaving only three players on the arbitration list. Javier hit .248 in 112 games for the world baseball champions last year. Terms of the contract were not announced. Still on the arbitration list are outfielder Jose Canseco, first baseman Mark McGwire and infielder Mike Gallego. The A's also said 13 non-roster players have been invited to the major league spring camp, including outfielder Billy Beane, who hit .241 in 37 games with the A's last year. Also invited were outfielders Darren Lewis and Bruce Fields. Fields led the Pacific Coast League in hitting with a .351 mark at Calgary last year. Pitchers invited to report are lefthanders Joe Klink, Reese Lambert and Dave Leiper and righthanders Ed Wojna and Joe Slusarski. Also invited are catchers Jose Brito and Russ McGinnis and infielders Stan Royer, Al Pedrique and Dickie Scott. Royer was the A's first-round selection in the June, 1988, draft.
