CHICAGO (UPI) -- Left-hander Paul Assenmacher Thursday agreed to a one-year contract with the Chicago Cubs, leaving only shortstop Shawon Dunston and relief pitcher Mitch Williams still eligible for arbitration, the club announced. Terms of Assenmacher's contract were not announced. The left-hander posted a 2-1 record and a 5.21 ERA last year in 14 games with Chicago after being traded from Atlanta. He gave up 19 hits in 19 innings, walked 12 and struck out 15. Williams, the Cubs's fireballing left-handed closer, had 36 saves, a 4-4 record and a 2.76 ERA in Chicago's 1989 National League East championship season. Dunston hit .278 with nine home runs and 60 RBI. He stole 19 bases and committed only 16 errors at short.
