One blunt answer. You make the point that COBOL programmers often look at things in terms of Structure Charts. While it isn't really possible, imagine that overnight you could replace all the COBOL programs with their functional equivalents written in some OOPL, say EIFFEL, and you relaced the COBOL staff with EIFFEL staff. Seems to me that this has little effect on the rest of the boxes. You'd just need to say that now, P4 is usually stated in terms of objects exchanging messages. lee
