sdl@lyra.mitre.org (Steven D. Litvinchouk) (03/03/90)
I am trying to do a performance comparision of two different object
oriented programming implementations (Smalltalk-80 from ParcPlace, and
MODSIM II from CACI).
These languages differ in some respects, but both provide the
essentials of OOP: objects, inheritance and polymorphism.
Are there "de facto standard" benchmark programs that are used by the
OO community to measure the performance of things like: object
creation, instance variable access, dynamic method lookup, etc.?
(Both time and space performance are of interest to me.) So far, the
only such benchmarks I know of are those that came as part of the
Smalltalk-80 distribution. Are there others?
Please reply directly to me; I will post a summary of responses to
this newsgroup. Thanx in advance!
