<<what follows is press release text>> FOR IMMIEDIATE RELEASE (March 8 ,1990) The OOCTG (Object Oriented COBOL Task Group), a subcommittee of the Conference on Data Systems Languages (CODASYL) COBOL Committee, is issuing a call for members. The OOCTG is responsible for developing Object Oriented Programming (OOP) extensions to COBOL. The task group is currently composed of seven members and four observers, representing Allinson-Ross Corp., Digital Equipment Corp., Hewitt Associates, Hewlett-Packard Corp., IBM Corp., Interactive Software Engineering Inc., Micro Focus Ltd., Realia, Inc., SPC systems USA, Sun Microsystems, and Wang Laboratories, Inc. The OOCTG held its first meeting in January to establish bylaws and a scope and program of work. Tentative milestones for its work are: - Internal working paper draft on object oriented extensions to COBOL, expected in March 1991, followed in September by the formal working paper. - Proposal to add new OOP features to the CODASYL COBOL Journal of Development, expected in March, 1992. - Draft addendum to the ANSI X3-23-1985 COBOL Standard, incorporating the OOP features, expected in September, 1992. OOCTG members have voting privleges (one vote per company) and are required to attend meetings, accept and complete work assignments, and occasionally host one of the group's quarterly meetings.
