From: engvax!KVC@cit-vax Everything you want is in VMS V4. The V4 queueing system allows you to put text that you want sent to your device to initialize it into a text library. You can then tell the print symbiont what to do when you start the queue. In addition, DEC support user-modified and user-written print symbionts in V4 in case the text library trick is not good enough (I plan to use a user-modified symbiont to use printers on a controller on our ethernet). In addition, terminals in V4 can be set up so they are detachable. When VMS loses carrier detect, the line is dropped and the process is "disconnected" from the physical terminal. You can then log back into the system and it will say: "You have the following disconnected processes: [list of your disconnected jobs...] Would you like to attach to any of them:" You can also use the DCL commands DISCONNECT and CONNECT to disconnect whenever you want (like for going to lunch) and reconnect. It's a very nice feature. It's also useful for moving from terminal to terminal without loggin out. /Kevin Carosso engvax!kvc @ CIT-VAX.ARPA Hughes Aircraft Co.
