[comp.object] Public Domain Self language

rogerson@secola.Columbia.NCR.COM (03/11/91)

Is there a version of the Self language available for ftp in a
	Unix or Dos version?

	Thanks for the information.

Self is not public domain... but David Ungar and the guys from
Stanford have been making it availible via ftp from otis.stanford.edu
on a free license basis. A license needs to be filled out and
physically mailed is in the pub directory, as is the user manual,
contributed code, and papers.

Version 1.1 (current) still is distributed in a binary only form
for Sun-3s and Sun-4s. The virtual machine will be made availible
sometime soon on a rather limited basis to (exclusively?) educational
institutions.

They will have a commercial license soon, I hear.
