I'm posting this for a friend who doesn't have access to netnews. Please reply by direct email to gilberte@media-lab.media.mit.edu. Thanks! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello! I work as a correspondent for a French newspaper that is planning a very special issue for its 25th anniversary. I'm in charge of gathering information for the Object Oriented Languages part (there will be an AI part, a GUI part, etc). The general idea is to picture what will be the landscape in CS in 10 years from now (thus what will be OOL). Looking back 10 years, so much has happened, I'd like to get your best estimate of what the next 10 years will bring. Also I'll have to explain in very clear (i.e. relatively non-technical) words what's the difference between C++, Objective C, Smalltalk, CLOS, and other major systems. Basically, what are their strong and weak points, what are they good for? Examples from very big projects are welcome. Any suggestions or comments are very welcome. Thank you!
