[fa.info-vax] VMS spooling and Remote terminals

Two questions:

Is there a simple way to configure the spooler to send out a different
header page than the standard one? I want to restore the serial
printer to a known state before starting a listing. Alternatively,
Is there an option to filter special characters out? I'm hoping not
to have to dive into the spooler code and couldn't find any mention
of these things in the manuals.

Also, there is an implication that DCL handles loss of Carrier Detect
to log off a remote users. Is there a modification to allow jobs to
be detached and picked up with another logon (password etc) in case
of accidents?

Wait for version 4. The symboints have hooks for everything you want,
and doing what you want should be relatively simple.

The terminal driver actually kills the process when carrier is lost.
Again, wait for version 4. The job becomes detached and you have to
attach it again.

Loss of carrier for VMS process:

Current version of VMS (V3.x) will only log you out. New version (V4.0)
allows detaching as you would like. This should hit the streets *real
soon now*.

There is also supposed to be enhanced print spooler controls including
*I think* site specific header pages but I'm not sure of the details
on that one.

[Aren't you hungry...?]

To avoid the header page, one can print things /NOHEADER (or
something like that). You can then header things however you wish.
As to putting remote terminals who lose carrier into a suspended state, that
is supposedly coming under VMS 4.0. Believe it when I see it.
