From: cmf%case.csnet@csnet-relay.ARPA Is there any simple (or not so simple) way to find out what node a remote DECnet terminal connection originated from? If it makes any difference, we're running VMS 3.4, DECnet V3.2. Thanks, Carl Fongheiser cmf%case@CSnet-relay.ARPA ...!decvax!cwruecmp!cmf

From: Richard Garland <OC.GARLAND%CU20B%columbia.arpa@csnet-relay.ARPA> DECnet nodename for remote logins: A while ago I got a set of routines written by Craig Leres at LBL which does this. There is a MACRO routine which goes into kernel mode and makes a table of stuff from the terminal UCB's (DECnet link # and idle time for each interactive terminal). Then ther is a RATFOR routine that uses the link # as an argument in a request to the NETACP which returns the node name. It works. I have incorporated it into a FINGER program of mine. I can forward the stuff to you or you could get it from Craig. Rg -------

From: NEWMAN%SAV@LLL-MFE.ARPA There exists a way of doing this. It is non-trivial, but I have a program (yet-another-WHOs-on-the-system-type-program) which does report the source node name and user ID of a DECnet remote terminal when it stumbles upon one. I am too lazy to extricate the code specific to finding out about remote terminals from the source. Because it is fairly long, I will not burden Info-VAX with it. Carl, if you'd like I'll mail you a copy. gkn --------------------------------------- Arpa: Newman%SAV@LLL-MFE USPS: Gerard K.
