The 782 is a closely coupled machine consisting of two 780 processors
tied to a multiport memory. The second CPU only runs in user state to
execute processes. The primary processor runs most of VMS and other
user processes.

The 785 is essentially a sped up 780 with a larger cache. In most respects,
other than speed, it is identical to a 780 (as someone said "...bug for bug,
it looks like a 780...").

The newly announced 8600 is the long awaited "VENUS" VAX. This is a new
(ECL hardware I believe) machine reputed to by 4 times a 780.

The uVAX's are VAX-on-a-chip type machines, which currently use the Q-BUS.
Current uVAX's have a reduced instruction set, with compatibility mode gone
and other instructions emulated in software.

The uVAX-I is two board, chip-set processor with about 730 performance.

The uVAX-II reduces the processor to a single chip and reputedly will
have 780 class performance.
