[alt.sys.sun] advice requested re CAP vs K-AShare and Mt Xinu K-Talk/K-Spool

cole@unix.SRI.COM (Susan Cole) (05/24/91)

You'd think I'd have learned not to cross-post to comp.sys.sun by now ...
anyway, I'm sending this short post because I'm afraid the long one with
the same theme will take weeks to come through. Apologies for the fact
that you'll see essentially the same question twice.

We need to support spooling from Macs (on GatorBoxes) through our Sun
to other Mac printers. We were using Mt. Xinu's K-Talk/K-Spool to do
this but it crapped out when our Macs were upgraded to 7.0. Now I need to
decide whether to buy Mt. Xinu's $395 upgrade or go another route for the
Sun support of Mac print spooling. Any comments or suggestions?

Also, we want to try running bbn's macdump, which says it requires CAP.
Mt. Xinu has a product @$995 called K-Ashare that they say does more than
CAP does and is easier to maintain and install (and it would get us the
K-Talk/K-Spool upgrade free). Any experience with this product?

Thanks - Susan
