There have been many messages in this area regarding the DSP56001. I have made enquiries with the local Motorola agent, and his latest list (March '89) lists the part as still in experimental silicon only. He has confirmed this since he has purchased XSP56001 devices for local companies. He has not been officially notified of its availability in its final form. Would someone who has purchased a DSP56001 over the counter please mail me a few words to describe the state of this device in the US. I was quite surprised by the inclusion of the device in NeXT, since it does not seem to have made a successful entry into the market in Australia. The support by Mot. locally is also quite poor (at least it has been in the past), which is why most of our work is with TI DSP devices. Apparently, I can buy an XSP56001 for A$120, but I currently do not know whether it has any bugs in silicon. If anyone has experience here, please advise. ..G..

Your salesman is confused or brain-damaged. I've been using DSP56001's for 2 years now. In quantity they cost $56.01 a piece. They're very hard to buy from Motorola; call a distributor (e.g. Hamilton-Avnet, Arrow, etc.).
