Can anyone give a capsule summary of what "wavelet transforms" are all about? I've read the Scientific American and Radio Electronics blurbs on the subject, and it sounds intriguing, but I have yet to see any explanation of exactly what it *really* is. I have the bibliography on the subject recently posted to sci.math, but still no summary of what wavelet transforms are. One bibliographical item suggests a connection to/identity with Gabor Transforms. Is that true? (If I missed a discussion/explanation of the subject in this group, could someone forward it to me?)
