[comp.dsp] help on getting gabriel info

phil@east.Berkeley.EDU (Phil Lapsley) (02/13/91)

Osvaldo Mesa asks:

> Does copernicus.Berkeley.EDU support some kind of
> mail server where I could ask for the info on gabriel
> thru mail? I do not have ftp acces to it.

Nope, sorry -- we're FTP only. If you can afford the $200 handling fee,
our Industrial Liaison Program office will send you a Sun 1/4" tape and
printed manual, though. Their address:

	EECS/ERL Industrial Liaison Program Office
	Software Distribution
	479 Cory Hall
	University of California at Berkeley
	Berkeley, CA 94720
	ATTN: Cindy Manly-Fields
	(415) 643-6687

After re-reading Osvaldo Mesa's article that I responded to about
getting Gabriel info, and realizing that my brain must have been
turned off when I responded, I thought I ought to clarify things:

Information on Gabriel can be obtained by those without FTP access
by mailing to "gabriel@janus.Berkeley.EDU" or "...!ucbvax!janus!gabriel".
We'll email you the overview blurbs, availability info, and references to
published literature. The software itself is available for free via FTP
or for $250 (the price just went up) on tape.

Sorry for any confusion.

For a comprehensive overview of Gabriel, see the article:

"Gabriel: A Design Environment for DSP," in the October, 1990 issue of
IEEE Micro magazine (Volume 10 Number 5), pages 28 - 45.
