I'm starting to design a project around the Motorola DSP56001 and need more memory than the 64K of SRAM that the 56001 can see. So, has anyone out there hooked up DRAM, by any means, to the 56001? The really cheesy plan that I have now is to use another processor and have it look at some memory location (treating the 56001 like an I/O device) and just trnasferring that to DRAM. Of course the other processor I'm using already knows about DRAM. Does anyone know how the NeXT interfaces its 56001 to the 68030? I've heard things like DMA, but the logic and timings required for that must be horrendous. Anyway, you can mail me a reply and I'll post a summary if there's sufficient interest (or replies!) or if you feel this is a worthwhile subject, then you can post it.
