[comp.dsp] Function evaluation

Hello,
	Can anyone give me any pointers to references about using table
	look ups to speed-up certain function evaluations? Specifically
	I am using the cumulative Gaussian function (erf(x)) in a 
	speaker recognition system and the power series method is very
	time consuming so I would like to speed things up with an
	efficient table look-up procedure.
