From: sasaki@harvard.ARPA (Marty Sasaki) We are having many mysterious problems with programs that seem somehow related with the V4 terminal driver. Here is an example. We have ported VI to VMS. It works fairly well and the bugs remaining are well defined. Bringing the source over to V4, changing the terminal interface to what DEC says to do (using passthru instead of passall, setting ttsync, etc.) and recompiling introduced problems. Sometimes the terminal doesn't have echo turned off. Sometimes PASSTHRU mode isn't turned on. Then suddenly one day without any changes in the code ECHO and PASSTHRU always were set properly. The system wasn't rebooted between when things didn't work and when they did. Is this something wrong with the V4 terminal driver or am I having problems with the C compiler and run-time? Anyone have similar problems? Marty Sasaki Havard University Science Center sasaki@harvard.{arpa,uucp} 617-495-1270

From: decvax!harpo!whuxlm!houxm!hou2d!afb3@BERKELEY I would be interested in a version of VI which runs under VMS (without having to resort to EUNICE). Is this public domain or otherwise available??? From: sasaki@harvard.ARPA (Marty Sasaki) The VI is a severly hacked version from 4.1 BSD (I think). We removed and replaced code to get it to work. It is flakey since the original is flakey and does things in very strange ways. I would be happy to send you a copy under the provisions that you send me your Berkeley license, and that you don't bother me much about fixing bugs.
