From: montanaro@GE-CRD Below are listed the various uucp products for VMS that I was made aware of by various info-vax members. Thanks to all who helped. Kevin Carosso at Hughes Aircraft has a direct port of uucp for VMS. This version is free, all that is required is a blank tape and a copy of your UNIX license. (Kevin did not say if any particular type of UNIX license was required. I know next to zip about UNIX licensing, so contact Kevin directly.) Kevin is on ARPAnet (engvax!kvc@cit-vax). UVCP (UNIX to VMS copy?) was apparently written by Microtel Pacific Research. I was given two different sources for it: Microtel Pacific Research Michael Ghesquiere UUCP: mprvaxa!mikeg (604)294-1471 8999 Nelson Way Burnaby, BC, Canada V5A 4B5 The second vendor is: OASYS Joel Schacht (617)491-4180 60 Aberdeen Avenue Cambridge, MA 02138 Price of UVCP is unknown. Contact the vendor(s) directly. A comment from William P. Malloy (twice removed) regarding this product follows. Note that UVCP appears to be a direct port also, thus requiring a UNIX license to be run on your VMS system. >>We have this thing installed on one of our MIS depts. VMS beasts to talk to >>us. It took a LLOOOONNNGGG time to get it installed. Apparently some >>screwy security problems with VMS, combined with incomptenance from our VMS >>system folks. We currently have uucp working, and they have a mail facility >>called umail. NOTE: it won't talk to normal VMS mail. UUX is apparently >>hopeless. It gives us error messages on the VMS side, but it does work. >>People around here often transfer 8M+ files from VMS to UNIX (all the time). >> >>If you believe him, and are willing to wait for it. Lauren Weinstein says >>he's writing his own version of UUCP for VMS which will be much better >>integrated into VMS (including handling mail and DECNET properly). In addition >>it will sell through DEC. Now the bad news (a) it's not being sold, but will >>be available REAL SOON NOW (where have I heard that before). (b) it will only >>work on VMS 4.0, and (c) Lauren although very bright, (he's the person mainly >>responsible for UUCP in the first place) has had a tendency to not finish >>promised products. If (when) he does finish it. We intend to push real hard >>for our VMS folks to get it. >> >>NOTE: buying UVCP means you have to get some silly binary license from AT&T >>because UVCP is based on UNIX code.
