[comp.unix.aix] Porting BSD code to 3090 AIX

toms@omews44.intel.com (Tom Shott) (02/12/90)

I am going to be porting an application from a Sun 386i to a 3090 w/ AIX. I
have never used AIX before so I am trying to get an idea what it will be
like. (What problems w/ the port I`ll have, what software I shouldn't use,
what public domain software I can use, etc.)

How BSD like is AIX ? What public domain software has been ported already ?
Specifically, has GNU emacs, make and gcc been ported yet ? I know I`ll
have problems w/ the non ASCII character set for some code that`s been
written. What other kinds of portability problems will I have ?

Who has an AIX anonymous ftp site ?

Please email me responses and I`ll summarize and post.

Well, this is one problem you won't have. AIX on the 3090 uses ASCII,
not EBCDIC.
