[comp.unix.aix] SCSI boards for AIX-PS/2 1.2?

ben@cunixf.cc.columbia.edu (Ben Fried) (07/24/90)

Does anyone know which SCSCI adapters PS/2 AIX 1.2 supports? I'm
looking at getting more disk space for a PS/2 model 70 running AIX, and
Big Blue's big disk prices are so outrageous, it would be a lot cheaper
to buy a SCSI adapter and then get some big, fast scsi drive. Will this
work with AIX? Does AIX work with third-party SCSI adapters? With
third-party SCSI disks?

Thanks in advance for any help.

1.2 comes with support for the two IBM microchannel SCSI adapters
(16 bit, and 32bit-cached). We've also got a adaptec SCSI board
(bought when the rumors were flying that the IBM boards were going
to be delayed), but we never got around to writing a driver for it.
We're fairly happy with the 16 bit adapter. We don't see much, if
any, performance difference with the 32-bit/cached adapter.
