Does AIX on RS/6000s have the necessary programs to format and install third party hard drives? If so, what is the procedure. Thanks!

There shouldn't be any problems installing 'third party h-disks'. 1st) Just
plug in the SCSI cables (they are standard) in case of model 7012-320
and higher. 2nd) 'Dip in' the right scsi address. 3rd) Power the
system up and use SMIT to format (if necessary) the disk and to make a
file system on it etc...

We decided to try it out with a Seagate SCSI drive we had lying around. We just hooked it up, went through SMIT's device/fixed disk/add a disk/ other scsi disk stuff, then created a new partition and filesystem using the SMIT filesystem menus, and everything worked great. The whole thing took about 15 minutes! -- Bill Ezell Software Innovations, Inc. wje@siia.mv.com (603) 883-9300
