Being a novice X user, where does one find information on how to set up the .Xdefaults file for an RS/6000? I read all about the keywords that aixterm can have in this file, but I can find no references to an actual .Xdefaults file. I presume the file is an ascii file that I would use my editor to make but what goes in it? There must be some major keyword to identify which program the options are for. A keyword of "title" is just to generic to be identified as "The title for an aixterm window". I'm sure other programs like xclock also have keywords such as "title". I tried a cat of the .Xdefaults file in my home directory but it looks like: XDesktop*pictureDirectory : /usr/include/X11/bitmaps/xdt_i_large /usr/include/ X11/bitmaps/xdt_c_large Should I put in something like: Aixterm*title : My aixterm title -- ##################################################################### # CompuServe: >INTERNET:uunet.UU.NET!ki!dwatts Dan Watts # # UUCP : ...!{uunet | wgc386}!ki!dwatts Ki Research, Inc. # ############### New Dimensions In Network Connectivity ##############

Choose the book "User Interface Programming Concepts and Procedures" From here you can travel numerous routes to find out about the various settings of aixterm, mwm and the like. I'm learning how to use infoexplorer more and more every day. It takes a little getting used t). (But then again I don't strain my back on so many heavy manuals 8^> ) >.Xdefaults file for an RS/6000? Here is what my .Xdefaults file looks like now (A lot of these flags took a while to figure out!) aixterm*font: courR12 aixterm*background: LightGray Mwm*resizeBorderWidth: 5 Mwm*InteractivePlacement: True Mwm*keyboardFocusPolicy: pointer These settings will set the font of aixterm to a reasonable size, set the background color to LightGray, set the resize border to something that's not so HUGE (The default is 10 pixels!) The last two settings make mwm more like the twm I'm used to, i.e. I place where I want the windows when they first pop up, and the Input focus is always where the current mouse pointer is.
