Here's a problem that's a little different from the usual stuff: I have a piece of software that I converted to AIX 3.1 on the RS6000 through the generous services of one of the IBM Porting Centers. The software will be distributed on several 3.5 inch diskettes in tar format. No problem there (btw, the program consists of about 350K lines of fortran in 20 or so large modules with some additional support code in C and compiled and linked without any problems whatsoever) Now the problem: I have to make distribution copies of these diskettes, that is, identical copies. Eventually, the problem will go away when I obtain a 6000. In the meantime, I do not have access to a 6000 and I would like to make copies on a DOS machine, but since a DOS sector editor could not even read the disk, I suspect that various parameters are different. Can anyone shed any light on the format used on the 3.5 inch floppies? Does anyone know of any programs (DOS, unfortunately) that might be of use? Does anyone know what parameters are used by the floppy controller chip so I can write my own routine? Any and all help cheerfully accepted, although pointers to read the manual will be ignored since the manual (and machine) will not be delivered until next year 8-) -- Paul Amaranth office: (313) 370 4541 (also voicemail) (internet) amaranth@vela.acs.oakland.edu | WANTED: Clever saying (bitnet) amaranth@oakland | to fill this space.
