[comp.unix.aix] Autorepeat rates in AIX3.0.2 X11

raj@pollux.geog.ucsb.edu (Richard A Johnson) (12/06/90)

After installing the latest version of the X11 server (version 1.1.2.4 of
X11rte.obj) I noticed that the autorepeat rate for the keyboard is REALLY SLOW!
MUCH SLOWER than it was before! Is there any way to change this? I don't
see any command line arguments to X when I do "X -help". I'm definitely not
opposed to using adb on the executable to change the hardcoded value, but I'd
need someone looking at the source to tell me what location to change.

HELP Austin! Please!!!

Look up 'chhwkbd' in the manual.

I use 'chhwkbd -d500 -r20' in my .kshrc (only if I log in to
    /dev/hft/0)..

From my observations the repeat rate is reset to the default
11 characters per second whenever the machine is rebooted.
There is a menu option under the smit devices menu to change the
rate. I would very much like to know how to change it
permanently, as I seem to be rebooting the machine much too
frequently.
