I asked an IBMLink support specialist why there was 26 1009 update diskettes when I had been told 1008 was the last of the big update runs. Below is their reply. It also includes info about getting updates on tape. R: The support specialist told you what the intentions were for the update strategy. Since the number of updates was getting to be large (24), development was planning to make 1008 the basis for future updates. In other words, everyone would need to have 1008 installed in order to apply future updates. When 1009 was built, it took 13 diskettes. This number was unacceptable. Development rebuilt 1009, incorporating this level with the previous cumulative updates. The number of diskettes was 26. Customers needed 1009, and we decided to change our initial plans, so that we would ship 26 diskettes. However, the development is still working to reduce the diskette size. The 1009 update is available on the streaming tape or the tape for the internal backup unit format. Thank you. Adam R. Garrett U of Wash Libraries
