From: Bill Mitchell <whm%arizona.csnet@csnet-relay.arpa> Several days ago I posted a note asking if anyone had any hard facts about whether or not the SBI disk controllers made by Emulex and SI would work on an 8600. I didn't turn up anything on the net, but I finally managed to reach apparently knowledgeable people at Emulex and SI. First of all, just about everyone that I spoke to at Emulex and SI was very definite in saying that from looking over specifications for the 8600 hardware the existing products would work as-is, but it had never been tried. Today I talked to an Emulex district sales manager who claims to have a site running Eagles on an 8600 with VMS 4.0 and the person I spoke to said that things were working just fine. This machine is supposedly somewhere in southern California, but my source would not reveal where. I figure it's got to be at Hughes or TRW. I'm not looking to pester whoever has it, but it would be good to get some non-Emulex confirmation of Eagles working ok on an 8600. I spoke to a technical person at SI who claimed to know that SI did not have any Eagles on an 8600 as yet. (But they seem to be sure that it will work as they're not planning on a beta-test period.)
