Hello.
I am working on a midnight "hack" project, and I need some
information. I was wondering if anyone out there would be able to help
me.
The project which I am working on is a file/mail gateway from
DECnet/VMS into any definable external network architecture, within
supportable limits. The purpose is to allow someone to
semi-transparently send and/or receive mail or access files in
non-DECnet networks or nodes, by tapping into DECnet at the DAP and MAIL
levels. The system would, at the System Manager's discretion, allow
these other networks to gateway into one another.
I want to be able to support the following architectures and
protocols:
o ARPAnet
o CSnet
o TCP/IP
o UUCP
o KERMIT
o SNA
What I need is the protocol functional specs for the above
items. I have already have the Kermit spec, but I am still looking for
the others.
I am still in the design stage for this project. I welcome any
comments (no flames, please) and suggestions that anyone would like to
forward. If there are other types of networks/protocols that should be
supported, please send those ideas in as well. I would like to get
feedback from anyone/everyone out in netland before I get much farther
in the design so that I can anticipate what would be valid concepts before
I design myself into a corner. So, I am anxiously awaiting any help and ideas
that you folks can provide.
Thanks!
