DATE: 5/10/91 SUBJECT: This note is to announce the general availability of AIXServ. DESCRIPTION: AIXServ is a project that allows users connected to the Internet and Usenet to report AIX software defects to the AIX Support Center using electronic mail. AIXServ is one component of the Electronic AIX Support Environment (EASE). AIXServ has been in beta test mode for over five months and the project has received very favorable response from testers. Currently, AIXServ users can submit a bug report to open a Problem Record, update the Problem Record and request copies of their Problem Records. LIMITATIONS: At this time, AIXServ is only available for use by U.S. domestic customers. ADDITIONAL INFO: To start using AIXServ, the user needs to get the "AIX Service Package". This package is available free of charge to all U.S. domestic AIX users with a valid customer number. To request the package, just send a note with a subject line of "package" to one of the following E-mail addresses. I always found it a little silly to call the 1-800 number for Software Defect Support, give them very little info (customer number & software), be transferred to another group, explain the problem, and then wait while the other person gathered her thoughts. This e-mail service looks much more efficient. The ability to include actual command lines & error messages in the bug reports will probably help IBM alot. IBM, thanks for opening this service. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- David Fricker | phone: 216-433-5960 NASA Lewis Research Center | M.S. 5-11 Cleveland, Ohio 44135 | email: fsfrick@bones.lerc.nasa.gov
