Has anyone encountered some strange "cron" effects on the RS6000, version
3003?
A cron job owner's .profile is run with each invocation of the cron job but
apparently chokes on things requiring an interactive shell, i.,e.
an "open ksh" within a .profile generates the following error:
Message 1:
>From root Tue May 28 15:50:02 1991
Date: Tue, 28 May 91 15:50:01 -0700
From: daemon
To: root
open: 0380-191 This workstation, , is not the console.
Run this command only from the console, /dev/hft/0, or an hft
workstation.

cron: The previous message is the standard output
and standard error of one of the cron commands.
An interactive shell test around the "open ksh" fixes the problem but
has anyone complained to IBM?

This problem (cron executes users .profile) was fixed with apar ix15208. It is available in the 2004 and later versions of AIX. >Charles DeRykus Internet: ced@bcstec.boeing.com >Boeing Computer Services UUCP: ...!uunet!bcstec!ced >Renton, WA. What would you complain about? This is the way it is supposed to work. (Unless you are refering to the "bug" that runs the ".profile" in the first place. This bug should be fixed in 3005, or 2006.) +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |The views expressed herein, are the sole responsibility of the typist at hand| +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |UUCP: pensoft!robin | |USNail: 701 Canyon Bend Dr. | | Pflugerville, TX 78660 | | Home: (512)251-6889 Work: (512)343-1111 | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
