I am trying to port programs runing on VM/CMS to run on AIX/370 (IBM 3090). These programs use binary files to exchange data. Therefore direct access method must be used. On CMS the Fortran utility subroutines like RWFIL, UOPEN, UCLOSE, RDPOS, etc. are used. However, my consultant says that these utilities are obsolete and suggest me to write subroutines to mimic the Fortran utility subroutines or use standard Fortran 77 open/close calls. These suggestions are both too hard for me. Before I give up, I wonder if the net has something to offer. I am familiar with Fortran and C only at the rather novice level, but I am willing to spend the time. Thanks in advance!!! Sincerely, Mingzuo Shen
