The thread about PC-NFS annoyances is being followed here with some interest. Sun does listen to its customers, though, and I disagree with those postings that leave the impression it doesn't. In fact, when Geoff was visiting England recently he stopped by The Independent here in London where he patiently sat through several hours of complaints both from me and from, astonishingly enough, real end users of the package here. Not only did he listen, but he took copious notes. But in a network design review meeting yesterday here, my boss, who has seen perhaps more of the problems and inconveniences and shortcomings of PC-NFS than he has of its qualities and good features, made it very clear that his opinion of PC-NFS is lower than that which he hears from people who have installed much more homogeneous networks using products like Novell. Not having ever used Novell, as I have, he's suffering from a "grass is greener over there" syndrome to a certain extent, but I doubt he's the only department director who shares this feeling about PC-NFS as a product as it stacks up against the better-known competition. But the product announcements and improvements had better come soon. -- Automatic Disclaimer: The views expressed above are those of the author alone and may not represent the views of the IBM PC User Group. -- --Dwight Ernest (reply to dwight%independent.uucp@ukc.ac.uk)
