From: Kevin Carosso <engvax!KVC@cit-vax> The uVAX II CPU board has a floating point unit on it. The board does complete F, D, and G floating points in hardware. DEC has said that it is possible to purchase a uVAX II CPU without the floating point unit, but that is certainly NOT going to be the normal uVAX II system. In fact, I think all the currently available system packages come with an FPU. You probably couldn't get one without it if you tried. The floating point unit is quite respectable and compares with a 780 with an FPA in performance. On a lighter note: About that MASSBUS that'll be out this summer... I wish DEC had told me 6 years ago when the VAX came in that we'd be beta-testing the MASSBUS for possible announcement as a product in the summer of '85. /Kevin Carosso engvax!kvc @ CIT-VAX.ARPA
