[connect.audit] SCSI controller for 68000?

object@ibmpcug.co.uk (Ken Tough) (04/26/91)

We are currently developing an SCSI interface board for a 16-bit
Motorola 68000 based system. This board is almost strictly
dedicated to one type of transfer, 16Kbyte blocks and we want
to have 4-5 Mbyte / sec async transfer rate.

We are wondering what SCSI controller chips are best suited for this
job. (We are leaning toward NCR 53C7x0 series). Remember that
the 68030 is different from the 68000, and we can only work with
16 bit wide data. It seems to us that making Intel-to-Motorola
interface logic for the 16bit compatible 53C700 may be easier
than making "cycle doubling" logic for the 32bit 53C710.
Besides, we will need to generate UDS/LDS and synchronize DTACK
anyway, for the 53C710.

Thanks for any advice,
Ken Tough
