[fa.info-vax] DECNET and uVAX

DECNET most certainly runs on Micro-VAXs, but you have to buy the
DECNET license to get all the pieces. DECNET will run over the
DEQNA Ethernet controller and with 4.x will run over terminal
lines. There may also be a board out or in the works to run DDCMP.

As to whether DECNET is the best solution depends on several
factors, including applications, cost, DEC support etc.

For simple, cheap interconnection KERMIT is hard to beat.

For more open, multi-vender networking, TCP/IP ought to be considered
(The Wollongong Group is coming out with a uVAX version which
DEC will distribute).

THERE IS A SYNCHRONOUS BOARD FOR THE MICROVAX, DMV11 - $2200 FOR THE RS232
VERSION.

DECNET LICENSE FOR THE MICROVAX II IS $1950 FOR FULL FUNCTION LICENSE, AND
$630 FOR END NODE LICENSE ONLY.

THIS WOULD ALLOW YOU TO COMMUNICATE WITH A DMR11 OR THE SYNCHRONOUS PORT ON
A DMF32 ON THE UNIBUS VAX'S.
