/* ---------- "International Indian Conference" ---------- */

I have been asked to post the following:

"This is an invitation to all indigenous peoples and international
supporters in the struggle for Peace and the care of our Mother
Earth.

"International Indian Treaty Council (IITC) will hold it's 13th
Annual Treaty Conference in Aotearoa, "Land of the Long White
Cloud," currently referred to as New Zealand. The conference will
be held during the last week of JANUARY THRU THE FIRST WEEK OF
FEBRUARY, 1990.

This is a time for indigenous peoples to come together to provide
written and/or oral testimony of the conditions they find
themselves subjected to in various regions of the world. The
documentation gathered at this international forum, will be
translated into United Nations languages which will then be
submitted to its various forums and specialized agencies.

"Of particular interest to all indigenous peoples is a historic
resolution which will soon be adopted by the United Nations
General Assembly to initiate a "Study of Treaties and Agreements"
between Indigenous Peoples and nation states. The Special
Rapporteur designated by the UN to initiate this profound study
is the Human Rights Representative of Cuba, M. Miguel Alfonso Martinez.

"Indigenous peoples who feel this Study applies to them, should
contact Mr. Alfonso Martinez at the United Nations Palaise
Nacion Center for Human Rights, Geneva, Switzerland.

"The IITC since 1977 has been defined as a Non-Governmental
Organization (NGO) in Consultative Status, Catagory II within
the Economic and Social Council by the United Nations.

"With the arrival of the IITC at the UN, indigenous prospectives
& consciousness was first presented on an International level
directly by the peoples affected by decisions made by nation
states.

"For more information call the IITC Information Office in San
Francisco (415) 566-0251, or write to IITC, 710 Clayton S #1,
San Francisco CA 94117. Look for us on line soon."

(Please do not respond to poster, I post this as a favor & in
solidarity.)
