Crackdown On Columbian Drug Dealers Continues (ABC story 5 of 11) --> PORTED TO UNITEX BY: ABC World News Tonight Friday August 25, 1989 Mark Potter Bogota, Columbia 1:40 (8%) Some US aid, over and above the $65 million package, arrived in Columbia today. Two State department helicopters have been loaned to the National Police. Helicopters are needed to carry troops to remote areas of Columbia where it is believed the major traffickers are still hiding out. Early this morning, the traffickers struck again, setting fire to an exclusive country club in Medellin. Yesterday, in their declaration of war against the government, the traffickers said they would not only kill officials. journalists, and their families, but would also destroy the property of the rich. However, it is the drug dealers themselves who own the greatest riches. Under a new decree, seized property will be kept by the authorities unless the land owner can prove within 5 days it was bought with legitimate funds. Students in Bogota held a march today in support of the crackdown. * Origin: UNITEX --> Toward a United Species (1:107/501) --- Patt Haring | UNITEX : United Nations patth@sci.ccny.cuny.edu | Information patth@ccnysci.BITNET | Transfer Exchange -=- Every child smiles in the same language. -=-
