DEBATE ON VARIOUS HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES
SUB-COMMISSION ON PREVENTION OF DISCRIMINATION CONCLUDES
GENEVA, 1 September -- This morning, the Sub-Commission on
Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities
concluded discussion of agenda items relating to the
administration of justice (item 9), promotion, protection and
restoration of human rights at national, regional and
international levels (item 15), slavery and slavery like
practices (item 14) and discrimination against indigenous
peoples (item 13).
Statements in the discussion of these questions were made by the
observers for the Four Directions Council, the Latin American
Federation of Association of Relatives of Disappeared Persons,
the International Commission of Health Professionals, the
Minority Rights Group, Romania, Hungary, United States,
Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Mrs. Irene Daes, expert
from Greece; Mr. Ion Diaconu, expert from Hungary; Ms. Fatma
Ksentini, expert from Algeria; the National Aboriginal and
Islander Legal Services Secretariat, Indian Council of South
America, Indian Law Resource Center, the International
Organization for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial
Discrimination, Indian Treaty Council, the International
Commission of Health Professionals, the International Movement -
ATD Fourth World, Defence for Children International, Ghana and
Venezuela. The observers for the Republic of Korea and the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea spoke in exercise of their
right of reply.
