     UN PRESS RELEASE:

Japan has acceded to the International Convention for the
Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and
Broadcasting Organizations. Its instrument of accession was
received by the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs on 26
     July.

The Convention, concluded at Rome on 26 October 1961, binds each
State party to grant, among other things, the same treatment in
its territory to foreign performers, producers and broadcasters
as to its nationals. It came into force on 18 May 1964.

As of 26 July, 33 countries had expressed consent to be bound by
     the Convention.
