SOVIET/AMERICAN CONFERENCE ON PEACE AND MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING

What: A conference on promoting peace, mutual understanding, and good will
between the Soviet Union and the United States. The conference involves most
of the exchange students from the Soviet Union here in the New England area.
Speakers will include a representative from SANE/FREEZE, a congresswoman from
Rhode Island who is head of the U.S./Soviet Bridge Committee, and Professor
David Adams of the Wesleyan Psychology Department, among others (we hope).
Social activities and discussion sections will be interspersed with the talks.

Where: Wesleyan University, Middletown CT 06457. This is approximately a half
hour away from New Haven or Hartford, and approximately 2 hours
(optimistically) from New York City or Boston.

When: Friday, Nov. 17 starting at ~5:00 pm and Saturday, Nov. 18 for the whole
day.

Who: Everyone who's interested in East-West relations is invited. If you would
like to give a talk or help out in any way, please respond via e-mail to this
address, or to (203)638-0370, or to Wesleyan Students for Peace, c/o Psych
Dept., Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT 06457. Anyone is welcome. If
you're coming from out of town, sleeping arrangements can be provided, though
food and transportation costs are not being subsidized (so far).

How: Through the interests of Wesleyan University students, the guidance of
David Adams and others, and through *your* support! You can offer:

Your time: come help us out! join this group! work for peace!
$$Money$$: send donations to Wesleyan Students for Peace
Your time(again): attend! increase good will between the USSR and the
	   USA.
Your knowledge: come give a talk. Share your experiences.
Your media connections: Do you know of someone or are you someone that
would like to cover this in some media form? The more press coverage
this event gets, the larger its effect.

Why: At the conference, all the participants will help draft a statement
covering mutual desires of (some members of) the USA and the USSR. An outline
for the statement currently includes environmental issues, disarmament, and
general nonagression.

For more info, please e-mail me. Please, if you feel inspired feel encouraged
to send comments or suggestions. If anyone you know might be interested, tell
them about it! Thank you.
