UNITED NATIONS - ECONOMIC COMMISSION FOR EUROPE I N F O R M A T I O N Press Release ECE/TRADE/13 22 September 1989 OUTCOME OF THE THIRTIETH SESSION OF THE WORKING PARTY ON FACILITATION OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE PROCEDURES The thirtieth session of the UN/ECE Working Party on Facilitation of International Trade Procedures concluded its business on Friday, 22 September 1989, during which it continued its work concerning the practical implementation of its Recommendations and the revision of those which had to be adjusted to follow changes in international trade regulations and practice. The revision of the following ECE/FAL Recom- mendations is in progress: No. 6 (Aligned Invoice Layout Key for Inter- national Trade); No. 18 (Common Access Reference); No. 12 (Measures to facilitate maritime transport documents procedures); No. 15 (Simpler Shipping Marks); No. 17 (PAYTERMS-Abbreviations for terms of payment); and No. 10 (Facilitation measures related to international trade pro- cedures). The development of UN/EDIFACT messages is progressing rapidly in the framework of the EDIFACT Rapporteurs machinery set up by the Working Party. In 1989, the Working Party adopted for trial use messages con- cerning Purchase Order (ORDERS), Control (CONTRL), Customs Declaration (CUSDEC), Customs Response (CUSRES), International Forwarding and Tran- sport Message Framework (IFTMFR) and Quality Data (QALITY). Twelve ad- ditional messages being developed were submitted to the Working Party for information, prior to their acceptance for trial use. Appreciation was expressed of the valuable donations made by delega- tions and private corporations in the form of software, hardware and other types of technical expertise needed to accelerate the development of the UN/EDIFACT data base and the diffusion of UN/EDIFACT standards and procedures. In that connection a special ceremony was held at the United States Permanent Mission on Friday, 22 September, when the US Ambassador (His Excellency Mr. Morris Abram) transmitted to the ECE secretariat the latest donation of computer and laser printing equip- ment valued at some 80,500 Swiss francs from the US company Texas In- struments. Other valuable assistance has been provided by Price Water- house (USA), PKWARE (USA), Gupta Technologies Inc. (USA), Keyfactor (Denmark), and from the national delegations of Bulgaria and the USSR. The French delegation indicated that it was envisaging placing at the disposal of the secretariat for a period of six months a top expert in the fiel! d of electronic data interchange f or international trade trans- actions. _______________________________________________________________________ For the use of Information media; not an official record.
