NAMIBIA: UNTAG MEETS POLITICAL PARTIES Windhoek, 4 Sept.89 (NAMPA)-- UNTAG police monitors in Oshakati, northern Namibia received sporadic individual complaints of intimidation yesterday, after weekend tension between supporters of SWAPO and DTA. UNTAG chief spokesman, Fred Eckhard, told a news briefing here that the UNTAG Regional Director , Victor Andreev, yesterday chaired a meeting of political party representatives at the district centre in the African township of Katutura. The political parties agreed to establish a Windhoek liason, as proposed in article 11 of the Code of Conduct signed on September 12, and to convene an all party meeting on a weekly basis, starting Wednesday, October 11, in accordance with article 12 of the Code of Conduct. The political parties further agreed in principle on a draft statement denouncing all forms of violence.The meeting follows one held at the district level on September 28, immediately in the wake of disturbances when DTA supporters went on rampage in Katutura. At that meeting between SWAPO and DTA, the parties agreed to give prior notice on public rallies three days in advance in compliance with the Administrator General proclamation 23 and the Code of Conduct. They also agreed that all areas of Katutura shall be accessible to all parties for of campaigning, that supporters and organizers of political parties shall be given clear instructions to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner at public rallies and political campaigning and to refrain from insulting leaders of political parties. It was agreed that public rallies shall not take place in the late hours of the day and that parties should avoid marches and processions that do not lead to officially approved meetings and rallies.
