Organizations from all around the world belong to Interdoc, including the Brazilian Institute for Social and Economic Analysis (IBASE) in Brazil, DESCO in Peru, IBON and People's Access in the Philippines, Asia Monitor Resource Center (AMRC) in Hong Kong, the Latin American Institute for the Study of Transnationals (ILET) in Chile, CODESRIA in Senegal, IDOC in Italy, and the Data Center in the United States. Interdoc members make use of computer networks and a variety of database systems to collect, analyze, and disseminate information on labor and employment, multinational corporations, international development cooperation, economic and social conditions, human rights, and a variety of other issues. Interdoc was formed in 1984 to facilitate the sharing of information about information technology and its use for positive social change. Antenna, a Dutch NGO, functions as the technical advisory group and assists members and others in using computer communications. Poptel, based in London, manages e-mail services for Interdoc on the GeoNet commercial computer network. IGC staff participated in the Interdoc technical workshop in Epe, The Netherlands, September 17 through 23. We had a truly fantastic time learning about how people are making use of computer networks for action around the world. We met with operators of nonprofit networks in South Africa, Uruguay, Thailand, and the Philippines, and we examined a multitude of database applications used for storing and retrieving all varieties of structured and nonstructured data. If you would like more information about Interdoc, visit the conference geo2.interdoc or contact Michael Polman at Antenna (geo2:antenna), John Sayer at AMRC (geo2:amrc), or Tom Fenton at the Data Center (tfenton). --- Patt Haring | United Nations | Screen Gems in patth@sci.ccny.cuny.edu | Information | misc.headlines.unitex patth@ccnysci.BITNET | Transfer Exchange | -=- Every child smiles in the same language. -=-
